How did Thoro'Bred get involved with CoQ10?
As a partner with Hawthorne Products, manufacturer's of natural medications for equines, we became interested in the "tying up" syndrome (muscle fatigue) in racehorses. We chose Washington State University to conduct the blind test study for 6 weeks on 10 racehorses, 5 using 250mg per day and 5 using a placebo. After 5 weeks the veterinarians were seeing very little difference in the test horses regarding the tying up syndrome. I asked if they could test the blood oxygen in the sixth week. They said they could check the venous blood (the spent blood returning to the heart and lungs) but not the arterial blood. In testing the venous blood they found 30% more oxygen in the CoQ10 horses than in the placebo group. The veterinarians told us that this was a very important result, as oxygen and sucrose were the two most important parts of a blood cell.
